The freshness of the sea food and the variety of produce has to be one the highlights of a visit to Shimoni. A typical sea food lunch will include a sea food or vegetable soup, served up with chapattis or local fresh bread. Mangrove crabs and goujons of fish dripping in coconut sauce and fresh lime is the favorite Shimoni lunch. Coconut rice accompanies any saucy meal here with some vegetable curry and seasonal salads.

Also served as a side dish may be some deep fried calamari or octopus. Vegetarians don’t go hungry either as there is always some mix of tasty local vegetables and chicken fried or grilled .Basically, the spices we use are typically ginger, cloves, peppers, cinnamon, nutmegs, and all in different ways.

These meals taken on the veranda overlooking the wasini channel are also a ideal place to watch the fish eagles, hawks and  palm nut buzzards all sweep down and feed between the mangroves. The returning fisherman drop the fish guts as they return  and all sorts of sea birds tail  them. Early mornings we see dolphins at times directly in front of the lodge verandah, and afternoons the bait fish cause the birds to dive around them in the ocean. After meals there is a quiet pool side to sleep off a meal or read and relax, or sit back on the verandah and watch the sun set, birds fly by and   fishing boats come and go. So do nothing, relax, have a lovely meal and drink and let life go by.
