Wasini Board walk
Behind the village is a curious ‘coral garden’. This spectacular array of coral peaks is set like a moonscape on earth and during high tide, this garden fills with seawater.
Here the village women have built raised wooden board paths circling the coral garden and leading into a nearby forest of mangroves.
Visitors to the garden are charged a fee and proceeds go into a community fund operated by the ladies of the village.
Some of the money collected also goes into improving the community’s standards of living: construction of water tanks to harness rain water which is then treated to provide clean drinking water, providing secondary education for the girls and purchasing medicine for the local dispensary.
